When we find ourselves moving on from something in our lives, it’s easy to fall into extremes. On one hand, we might embrace a “good riddance” attitude, believing this approach empowers us to move forward. On the other, we may cling to what’s slipping away, resisting change and wishing things could stay the same. Often, these feelings stem from fear of the unknown or a belief that the situation should last longer than it has.
Major life changes naturally stir up a whirlwind of emotions. It’s important to allow ourselves to feel these emotions without unnecessary self-judgment. When these less enlightened feelings surface, be gentle with yourself—they’re part of the process. Over time, things will shift. In the meantime, there are conscious, loving ways to release what is changing.
And, BONUS! Looking at change through a lens of love and acceptance doesn’t just help you—it creates smoother transitions for everyone involved.
1. Start with Acceptance
Acceptance doesn’t mean liking the change or pretending to be happy about it. It’s simply recognizing where you are. Even a simple mantra like “All is well” or “I am exactly where I’m meant to be” can send a powerful message to your psyche and the Universe: I may not know where this change is leading me, but I trust it’s for the highest good of all.
Acceptance helps shift your perspective from resistance to trust, opening the door to a more peaceful transition.
2. Send Love and Light
When the person, place, or situation comes to mind, try to send it love and light. This practice is transformative. Why? Because at one point, this thing was in alignment with you, and it likely brought value to your life.
Throwing anger or resentment toward what’s leaving doesn’t help anyone—it creates energetic blockages and can even prolong your attachment. Letting go with love allows the situation to move on naturally. It’s easier to do this when you’re ready for something to leave, but even when you’re not, it’s a practice worth cultivating.
3. Practice Gentle Surrender
If you’re struggling to release, try a simple surrender practice. Partially inspired by the audiobook The Magic of Surrender by Kute Blackson, this method has been a game-changer for me:
In quiet contemplation or meditation, bring the situation into your awareness.
Visualize holding it in your hand, then lovingly give it to the Universe to be resolved.
See the person, place, or situation as happy, healthy, and free to move forward in its own way.
This practice shifts your energy from clinging to allowing, which opens space for healing and growth.
4. Forgive and Set Yourself Free
Forgiveness is a superpower when it comes to moving forward. Personally, I love using the ho’oponopono prayer - “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.”
Whether it’s a big life change or someone cutting you off in traffic, forgiveness clears stagnant energy and creates space for peace. Even a simple “I love you” or “I forgive you” can work wonders.

Embracing Love as You Let Go
Releasing with love isn’t about forcing yourself to “get over it” quickly. It’s about honoring your process while choosing a perspective that feels good in the long run. Some days will be easier than others but holding an attitude of love and trust can make all the difference.
Life’s changes may not always feel perfect, but they are unfolding perfectly. Trust in that. And as you navigate these transitions, remember: seeing the beauty in the process will carry you through.
And as always, I'm here if you need an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on :)
Much love, Robin
